Pediatric Dentistry is a specialized workplace focused on the care of children from the birth up to 15 years of age. Pediatric dentistry includes all dental disciplines except orthodontics and oral and maxillary surgery. In the care of child patients, it cooperates closely with the Department of Pediatrics of University Hospital HK.

The patients of our Pediatric Dentistry consist mainly of children with systemic illness, requiring a special dental care regime, children with disabilities and children with serious problems in the orofacial area, who cannot be treated by a dentist. In addition to preventive care for these children, which consists in determining the individual risk of tooth decay, the preparation and implementation of individual primary - preventive recommendations, we perform regular outpatient dental treatment, treatment of tooth injuries and soft tissues of the oral cavity, treatment of developmental defects of dentition. We also deal with gum diseases and mucous membranes of the oral cavity in childhood and with the replacement of lost teeth in childhood. In addition to this standard treatment, we perform short-term, mostly surgical procedures under sedation. Treatment in general anaesthesia is the completely special kind of treatment.

As a specialized clinical workplace, this department does not serve the normal therapeutic and preventive care of healthy children.

As a teaching workplace of Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Hradec Kralove, we participate in the teaching of students of dentistry, both the theoretical and practical and postgraduate education of dentists in the field of Pediatric dentistry.
The scientific research activity is mainly focused on improving the children care with special needs and regenerative methods of dental pulp treatment.
