Research activities

The research activities of the Department are based on cooperation with other institutes/departments of the Charles University Medical Faculty in Hradec Kralove and University Hospital in Hradec Kralove. Among the most important belongs cooperation with the Institute of Pathophysiology, Institute of Clinical Immunology and Allergology, Institute of Clinical Biochemistry, Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Institute of Medical Biophysics and the Institute of Social Medicine.

Stratification of our current research

  • Health risk evaluation of persons exposed to chemical and physical factors (environmental and occupational exposures)
  • Biological monitoring of environmental and occupational exposures to chemicals (currently exposures to PAHs)
  • Epidemiological studies aimed to evaluation of the health status and the lifestyle (the perception of health risks, evaluation of the level of psychosocial factors in workload and its effect on the stress response, quality of life)
  • Experimental and regulatory toxicology (in vitro dermal absorption of PAHs, estimation of the level of biological interactions in the mixtures of chemicals)

The main orientation of research to the future

  • Genotoxicity of selected nano-particles in vitro. Chromosomal aberration in peripheral lymphocytes, micronucleus test (in progress), comet assay (in progress)
  • Health risk evaluation of genotoxicity related to exposure to selected nano-particles (epidemiological studies in occupational environment)
  • Immunotoxicity of selected nano-particles in vitro. Selected inflammatory indicators and markers of oxidative stress
  • Health risk evaluation of immunotoxicity related to exposure to selected nano-particles (epidemiological studies in occupational environment)
  • Dermal penetration of chemicals in vitro
