On Wednesday, June 19, ScienceFest, an outdoor popular science event, took place in Dejvice, Prague, and our faculty was there again. The event was favoured by good weather, which attracted hundreds of visitors. In the morning mainly school groups, in the afternoon children accompanied by parents and grandparents. They had the opportunity to learn about different scientific disciplines and take part in countless interactive activities.
Our faculty was represented at the event by four students who showed visitors the basics of resuscitation using an automated external defibrillator (AED), tested their reflexes and allowed them to examine slides under a microscope. The smallest visitors learned to identify the organs inside a large teddy bear and for the very curious there was a quiz on historical medical mistakes.
Thanks to the good weather, the event was a great success and offered not only education but also a lot of fun.
ScienceFest is a joint project of universities, academic departments and leisure institutions. The aim of the event is to introduce science in a playful and interactive way, to popularize science through creative exhibitions and to remove the perceived "taboos", to present modern research in all fields of science for practical use, to stimulate the interest of children and young people, especially in science and technology, and to bring current topics of society to the public.
On Wednesday, June 21, students of our faculty again participated in the largest outdoor popular science event in the Czech Republic - ScienceFest 2023, which took place in Prague 6 on Vítězné náměstí and in the adjacent Technical Street. A total of 14 faculties from Charles University took part in the festival, including ours.
The theme of this year's festival was Roots of Science and the programme at our stand, located in the Charles University section, was attended by a total of 284 visitors during the day. They learned about how medicine was treated in the past and where medicine has progressed. The majority of them were pupils of the second and also the first grade of primary schools. They also tried out some practical activities - human resuscitation, listening to the lungs, surgical suturing or learning about the organs of the human body.
The eleventh edition of the event, which is a joint project of universities, academic departments and leisure institutions, was attended by 12,000 visitors.
On Wednesday 22 June, our faculty participated in ScienceFest 2022, whose theme was: Science from A to Z. At the event, our medics introduced visitors to the Doctor Wanted campaign through an interactive "mini-doctor course". Hundreds of visitors stopped by the LF HK stand throughout the day, mainly school pupils and students in the morning, and mostly parents and grandparents with children in the afternoon.
Adults tried out resuscitation, microscopy and tested their reflexes on their bodies as part of a "mini doctor's course". The younger visitors then listened to each other or their parents and grandparents using a stethoscope, tested human reflexes and got to know the internal organs in the body of a teddy bear. Those who completed all the tasks within the "mini-course" received a small gift from the promotional items of our faculty.
After two years, the tenth edition of ScienceFest was held again in the present, traditional form and was visited by almost 16 thousand people.
