3rd Department of Internal Medicine – Metabolic Care and Gerontology

We are an internal clinic providing outpatient and inpatient medical care with a special focus on: - acute diagnosis and treatment of patients with metabolic and nutritional disorders

- intensive metabolic care

- care of critically ill patients with internal diagnoses and internal complications of surgical and trauma diseases

- provision of patients requiring parenteral and enteral nutrition, especially in complicated situations

- special diagnostics and therapy of metabolic and nutritional diseases (diabetes, obesitology, lipid metabolism disorders)

- diagnosis and treatment of acute conditions in old age

- diagnosis and treatment of internal diseases, with a special focus on internal diseases of old age and premature ageing

- monitoring and treatment of patients after kidney transplantation

- treatment with plasmapheresis and other elimination methods (CVVH, LDL apheresis)

- treatment of patients with intoxications requiring the use of elimination methods (haemoperfusion, haemodialysis)

Main research topics

• Prediction of cardiovascular risk and prognosis in patients with hypercholesterolaemia by genomic and metabolomic analysis

• Cardiovascular effects of flavonoid metabolites and the influence of metabolic risk factors

• Development of novel infusion solutions to specifically treat indoor environmental disturbances in bacterial and viral infections in intensive and long-term care

Achievements

2022: 1st prize in the Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition and Intensive Metabolic Care's Best Publication Competition for original work by authors under 35 years of age: "The Impact of Glucose-Based or Lipid-Based Total Parenteral Nutrition...." (Skořepa, MD)
